Celebrating our First Birthday!

March 1, 2018 marked our very first birthday! While we may or may not be face-planting cupcakes like all self-respecting one-year-olds do, we’re celebrating this milestone with the friends and family who helped us get here. Because of dedicated and fun-loving yogis like you, this past year has helped our small community of 901 students and teachers grow into something special. We welcomed students from around the country—and the world! We’ve had classes led by some of the yoga scene’s most influential and innovative teachers. We shared our passion for selfless service with local organizations that are making a difference in the Memphis community. We became a Registered Yoga School and launched our first 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training. Yes, we’re still humble warriors, but we’re proud to say that list goes on—and it goes on because of YOU!

Our Present to You

Your presence is a present to us, so we hope you enjoyed our present to you yesterday as we offered free classes in honor of our our birthday! Thanks to all who came to flow with us. Stay tuned to find out who were the lucky winners of our drawings for classes passes, yoga gear and studio swag. And subscribe to our newsletter for photos of our birthday bash and winner announcements.

A Look Ahead

We’ve got some great things in the works that we just couldn’t wait to share. Here’s a sneak peak of what’s to come over the next few months as we enter our next year:

  • Graduating our First Yoga Teacher Training Students. Our five YTT trainees are deep into their journey of self-exploration and will soon be ready to share their gifts with the community. Stay tuned for a special Yoga in the Park class led by our trainees post-graduation later this spring! If you’re interested in deepening your yoga practice and exploring the benefits of teacher training, read this post and learn more about our program here.
  • Yoga Nidra Teacher Training.  This August, Dr. Nick Atlas, Ph.D., E-RYT 500, will host our first Yoga Nidra Teacher Training open to all levels of yogis. This retreat-style training will feature gentle movement, breath-work, and opportunities to receive and guide the immensely restorative, deeply relaxing and transformative practice of Yoga Nidra. Learn more and register here.
  • New Classes and New Teachers. We recently introduced two new classes to our schedule—Buti with Emily Dison and Kundalini with Kristina Ogden. Emily is a local choreographer and performing artist with a passion for “movement medicine;” the perfect ingredients for a dynamic Buti class that fuses asana with tribal dance and core work. Kristina is a recent graduate, passionate yogi and second generation yoga teacher, bringing Kundalini (the yoga of awareness) to the studio for the first time. Check out her class to learn this systematic approach to generate, capture and direct energy from within to empower yourself. Start your weekend early with Buti on Friday mornings at 9:30 and cap it off with Kundalini Sunday nights at 7:15. Reserve your spot here.

In addition to these cool new additions, we’re bringing back some of your faves like Self-Care Sunday and 108 Sun Salutations (our summer solstice soul-glow celebration benefiting the Streetdog Foundation). Practice your Karma early by helping out the Streetdog Foundation here.

Keeping the Party Going

No one likes that feeling after a birthday passes and a lull washes over the celebratory cheer. We know you like surprises, so keep your mat ready for our pop-up classes throughout the spring and summer! Stay connected with us on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and the Blog – you won’t want to miss them. In the meantime, if you need  to relax and recharge, check out our upcoming “Let Your Stress Melt Away” workshop on March 24 from 4:30-6:30pm!

Thank you again, YIY family. We look forward to celebrating many more milestones with you. Namaste!
