Leigh Pittenger

Yoga Teacher

20 Years in Practice and Teaching

Leigh’s yoga journey began nearly twenty years ago when she sought pain relief from chronic neck and shoulder tension exacerbated by stress. Yoga hooked her from the start with its mindful approach to finding ease in body and mind.

Completing her doctorate in religious studies from Emory University in 2011, Leigh moved to Memphis to teach at Rhodes College and Christian Brothers University. Having taught courses in world religions, she possesses strong knowledge and appreciation of ancient Hindu, Buddhist, and Daoist sources that have influenced contemporary yoga practice and the mindfulness movement.

Leigh earned her 200-hour teacher certification at the Therapeutic Yoga Center of Memphis in 2014. Since then, she has sought to help other practitioners access the tools to support their own healing and transformation. She teaches various styles, ranging from alignment-based asana to slow flow, yin, and yoga nidra. She guides practitioners in cultivating breath awareness, body awareness, and mental focus—encouraging everyone to honor their own bodies and wisdom.

Leigh writes about her strange and wonderful yoga journey in her memoir-in-progress, Confessions of a Bible-Belt Yogi, for which she is currently seeking publication.
